In computer networking a Media Access Control address (MAC address) is a unique identifier attached to most forms of networking equipment. Most layer 2 network protocols use one of three numbering spaces managed by the IEEE: MAC-48, EUI-48, and EUI-64, which are designed to be globally unique. Not all communications protocols use MAC addresses, and not all protocols which do require such globally unique identifiers. The IEEE claims trademarks on the names "EUI-48" and "EUI-64". (The "EUI" stands for Extended Unique Identifier.)

ARP/RARP is commonly used to map the layer 2 MAC address to an address in a layer 3 protocol such as Internet Protocol (IP). On broadcast networks such as Ethernet the MAC address allows each host to be uniquely identified and allows frames to be marked for specific hosts. It thus forms the basis of most of the layer 2 networking upon which higher OSI Layer protocols are built to produce complex, functioning networks.

No Control Panel in Windows Vista..  Had the OS about 2 hrs and was getting this problem.  Really Sucks...

You will probably find that your cool Vista 3D Desktop window revolver thingy doesn't work ether.

Control panel flashes and goes away.  check you revolving window 3D deal and its some kind of flat panel showing windows and open programs not the cool 3D desktop thing. How can Microsoft let this happen?

Top of the line everything and same prob. on all PCs.

Tried the desktop resolutions, multi monitors, Tv out on/off can't figure it out. It's got a mind of its own and just when I wanted to show my friends the cool 3D-Desktop thing.. Damb it....

Here is How to get access to your control panel.

Reboot sometime fixes the prob. Its not a User/profile related although it looks like it could be..  Vista only

To use you control panel simply click my computer and the on the left make sure that your folders tab is up exposing the control panel. Then use the right click and expand it.

This is the only way I can Use my control panel on my 5000.00 computers and my 400.00 Vista ultimate.

This really Sucks Bill.   WTF as far as your new 3D Desktop your out. maybe try a few reboots. or put in a few hundred hrs. and try some config / services issues.

Hope this helps with all those people having control panel problems..
